Pain, depression and struggles were his daily doses as he fought for survival but this did not stop him. He might not be able to walk for a longer time, but now he is fully determined to reach for his goals and dreams. Currently, he’s practicing and managing his own Fashion Atelier in his home town Baliuag (Bulacan).
A true warrior of the battle called life, Michael Sta. Maria was born in the province of Bulacan, in the midst of the revolution 1986, a reflection of which is his character to fight and excel in everything he aspires making him the subject of his own survival story.
A typical probinsyano kid who grew up in a struggling status in life, he was a persistent honor student in high school and a consistent academic scholar during college. He became part of the Nursing Academe since then being one of the most sought after Philippine National Reviewer for the Nursing Board and an author of the bestseller Nursing Review Book entitled Nursing Alert.
He continued to share his knowledge, motivate and inspire his students in reaching for the top. He’s a Nurse Educator by profession and an artist by passion. he has been part of the Art realm since childhood where he started to develop his creative sense by painting; and part of the performing arts during his college years being a dancer and a theatre actor.
He also used to work as a part-time choreographer during his younger years that gave him extra earnings when he was starting his life post education. He’s a person of great sense of style and fashion; he continued to hone his artistic side and creativity as he took Fashion Design, Pattern, Sewing Class and Haute Couture Courses in the leading Fashion School in the country – Fashion Institute of the Philippines. He made a mark as a young designer in the country where some of his artistic works and designs were showcased in local fashion shows, published in few fashion magazines and newspaper in the Philippines.
He has dressed local celebrities, trying to make a name of his own. His life turned upside down when he had a major car accident last 2013, where he almost died. It made him bed ridden for more than a year and experienced four major surgeries to recuperate.
This 2015, he officially became part of the most pretigious organization of Fashion Designers in the country – the Fashion Designers Association of the Philippines (FDAP). He started as an avant garde designer and now focusing on couture creations serving his clients for bridal, debut, red carpet and evening wear gowns. His current international fashion achievements include the first international fashion week he participated was the Mercedes Benz Stylo Asia Fashion Week, where he presented his Spring Summer 2016 collection entitled New Beginnings (last November), in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This collection was inspired by the beautiful flowers blooming in the gardens. His color pallettes were more of pastels representing the freshness and radiance of a blossoming flower after the storm. Treatments include ballgowns and dresses that were embroidered and fully embellished. Later in 2015, he was invited by VSO Models UK to bring his SS 2016 collection in United Kingdom where he had a show in Scotland Fashion Showcase 2015. Last year was just the beginning.
From Asia to United Kingdom, Michael brought his work to the United States of America last March 2016 and showcased his Fall-Winter 2016 collection in Los Angeles Fashion and Atlanta International Fashion Week. He received a good reception from the American audience and led him to being featured to the pages of a US based magazine and was even on a cover feature in a New York based magazine “7Hues”. His collection was entitled Prelude narrating his story when he was struggling for survival. His collection has a dark gothic vibe reflecting the pain and depression he had been through when he was recovering from the fatal accident. Treatment includes streetwear to ballgowns, embroidered and embellished pieces which really gave him a mark in the US Market.
This June, he was named by Metro Magazine as part of the 7 Metro Global Designers along side with other Filipino designers who’s already making a name in the international fashion scene.
