Allen Dizon in Sekyu

“Because of the recognition that I received, kahit paano, tumaas ang self confidence ko sa pag-arte.

Prior to the special screening of his latest film opus Sekyu, this glitter.ph correspondent had an intimate conversation with its director, the award-winning master of motion pictures, Joel Lamangan.

Director Lamangan starts, “The central figure of this film is the security guard. Simpleng istorya, simple ang pagkagawa. It’s simplicity and the manner on how the story was told and how it unfolds, that is what I like best about it that is why I said yes to this film project.

“The story is very refreshing kasi nga, honest ang security guard,” enthuses the director. “He is an honest man. For him the saying honesty is the best policy is like an everyday mantra. And in all aspect of his life. Yun kanyang panuntunan sa buhay. Ang maging dedicated sa trabaho. Ang maging mapagmahal na asawa at ama. How he will be able to sustain honesty, yung integredad, lalo na nga’t may problemang darating, dun makikita kung mapapanghawakan niya yun till the very end.”

How is Allen Dizon in this film? Director Lamangan replies, “He is more confident now. He has always been a good actor because inherent in him is the eagerness and willingness to learn. Mas humusay siya than before in the sense na alam na niya ang lenggwahe naming dalawa, hindi na ako bumabalik pa sa mga basics. Alam na niya rin ang medium that is cinema. Alam na niyang he should always be truthful in giving life sa character niya.”

After winning a string of international and local acting recognitions for Magkakabaung, Allen Dizon, the man of the hour, is in perfect acting form in his latest film.

He adds, “Subtle iyong acting ko rito. We want it to be very realistic, hindi yung over the top na acting na acting. The focus of the story is the life of a security guard na mahal ang trabaho niya, isang simpleng tao na gagawin ang lahat para sa kanyang pamilya.”

With this acting challenge. Allen admits investing much on the emotions of his character, putting himself and his heart in the security guard’s situation so that what the audience’s will witness are emotionally authentic scenes with feelings that are bare naked.

Is he expecting another set of acting awards in this movie? Dizon smiles shyly and answers, “When I do a film, I don’t think of it as a potential project that might bring me an award.

“I have no expectations for Sekyu.
