Raspy-voiced and movie star-handsome, singer Edward Benosa is taking to heart a reminder from his manager, actor Arnold Reyes. “Ang sabi ko kasi kay Edward,” recalled Reyes, “Kapag kumakanta ka, ang isipin mo nagkukuwento ka. Ikuwento mo ‘yung kanta.”                                                                                                                                    And Edward has such interesting, heart-tugging stories to tell. The guy has experienced how it was to be dirt-poor when he would scavenge for food and jump on whatever work, mostly menial, he could get his hands on. His mother would wash other people’s laundry to make ends meet.

Those experiences, you could feel them when Edward sings. He barely bothered himself with notes and pauses but he compensated for it with depth of feelings. Thus, when he broke into “’Di Man Lang Nagpaalam,” his signature song, you know that he is thinking of someone who left him without warning. And you could relate to it, seeing your own past heartbreaks somewhere in his telling of the song.

On April 16, the quest to make audiences more familiar with the voice behind the aforementioned hit, one of the tracks on his debut album, will come to fruition when Edward stages a birthday concert titled Most Requested at the Teatrino in Greenhills. Directed by Frank Lloyd Mamaril, with Marvin Querido as Musical Director, Edward’s special guests will be Morisette Amon and DJ Chacha of MOR 101.9.

“Grabe ang pressure pero alam ko na kapag naitawid ko ito, ibang self-confidence ang makukuha ko dito,” said the emerging pop balladeer who is just thankful for the support of his recording company Star Music, Dannon Clothing, his fans, and his management.
