Another daughter of the good-looking and all-time favorite leading man Gabby Concepcion is joining the fold. Is she ready to face the intriguing world of showbiz, and be compared to her half-sister, KC? Or will she just remain at the shadow of his popular father?
Garie Concepcion, the other daughter of Gabby Concepcion by Grace Ibuna, is now following the footsteps of her dad and sister KC Concepcion. And she must be lucky. It seems she will not have a hard time because she have the potential of becoming another KC. She felt honored and overwhelmed when she was told that she can fit the role of Darna, specially that ABS-CBN is looking for an actress to do the movie. She can replace Angel Locsin, who backed out of the project due to back (spine) pains.
Looking at her that night inside Zirkoh-Morato, while watching the comic tandem of Jose Manalo and Wally Bayola, we saw her athletic physique that matched her 5’5″ height. Indeed, good enough to fit the role of Darna.
Garie studied acting in the U.S., a sign that she’s really bent to join the industry. “Yes, I’m joining showbiz. Nakagawa na ako ng Wansapanatym with ABS-CBN in 2013. It was a very good experience doing the project with Snooky Serna and Cyril Manabat. I did Carrie, The Musical also,” she shared.
“I was also a part of an indie film entitled Straight To The Heart in a support role, with Gwen Zamora and Carlo Guevarra. I like my role because it was a challenging one. Itong indie film it’s very different. ‘Yung personality ko kakaiba sa tunay na buhay kaya tinanggap ko ‘yun,” she added. Incidentally, Straight To The Heart is an entry to the coming CineFilipino Film Festival 2016, organized by Unitel Productions. This entry is written and directed by Dave Fabros.
Aside from acting, she is a good composer, and a singer. She already had her first self-titled album with the carrier single entitled “Relax Lang Tayo.” And now, she’s almost done with her second album after she came back from the States, where she finished her course in acting.
She signed-up for Warner Records, and for the first time, she composed the carrier single for her new album.
“Sumusulat talaga ako pero I never had the courage na ilabas ‘yung mga isinulat ko kasi feeling ko it’s not good enough, na hindi pa ready. Noong nasa America pa ako, I sat down with my friends na composers at sila ang gumawa ng music. Kaya I think it’s the right time na. Tapos na po ‘yung album,” she shared.
“My album now is more on accoustic and I admit, si Lea Salonga ang aking favorite singer. Siya ang nag-inspire sa akin sa pagkanta. Ever since kasi, three years old pa lang ako, kumakanta na po ako,’ she added.
They say, Garie is 50% Gabby, and 50% Grace, but it’s in her mom where she got her skill in singing. “Sa mommy ko po nakuha ang pagkanta at sa lolo ko din po. Si papa naman kahit kumakanta, mas malakas ang influence niya sa akin sa pag-arte. ‘Yung acting ko kay papa,” she said.
Speaking of her dad, Gabby, she admitted they’re doing well. “He is okay, kausap ko lang po siya (kanina). He has a taping right now for a teleserye for GMA-7 kasama si Carla Abellana at Rafael Roselle. He’s very okay as a father. Sa ngayon, he really do the effort to communicate with me often,” she shared.
“Si ate (KC Concepcion), she is doing fine. She’s okay at nasa America siya ngayon to recieve an award. Nagkikita naman kami on weekend, not everyday. We catch up naman.”
At 24, we were surprised to know that her love life is as cold as the snowy evening. Thus, we wonder if guys are afraid to court her, or they are just intimidated. “Wala po talaga, very much descipline po ako. I don’t go bar hopping kaya siguro, wala masyadong guys na nakakakilala sa akin. Not even showbiz guys. Baka po, takot lang sila (giggle!). Wala po, totoong totoo,” she confessed.
When asked of the qualities of the next president to lead the country, she refused to open up. Instead, she told us to asked her mom. “Oh my God, si mother na lang po ang tanungin n’yo kasi she is running under a party list. Sana po ang next president natin ay maganda ang kanyang intention sa bayan natin,” she shared.
It’s not surprising if there will be a candidate who will be interested to have her as an endorser but as of now, she’s only interested to help her mom who is running under the party list Melchora.
Her thoughts on Senators Miriam and Grace: “I could not say kung magiging malakas ang laban nila sa election, pero marami po silang supporters. As I’ve said, kung mayroon man akong i-endorse, it’s my mommy kasi nga, she is running. Gusto niyang makatulong especially to all the women in our country.”
During the entire interview, her mom Grace was just seated beside her. So we asked her why run under a party list (Melchora). “We need changes in the government because we need better people to run our country to get back to our glorious days. I have a bill for the LGBT and I hope it will be put into law. For our society to move on, we need matured leaders. I am very disappointed with our government today. Kailangan maiahon ang mga mahihirap at gawan ng paraan para makakain sila ng tatlong beses sa isang araw,” she stressed.
“I think, we can achieve this with our own choice. I’m voting from the heart, manalo o matalo ang kandidato ko, I always go for the love of the country. Last election, I voted for Gibo because I voted with my conscience and I really think until this very day, I believe he would have been a very good president. For the coming election, I still have to think about this. I am choosing between a lady and a man.”
As to her former partner Gabby, Grace was honest enough to admit that she had no regrets having a relationship with Garie’s father. “No, why would I regret, I bore a beautiful child and that made me a better person. We should never regret things that we have done, whether it’s good or bad. Basta, no regrets,” her straight from the heart remarked.
