The Cinderella from Palawan is now ready to conquer the international scene as she competes with other girls around the world, as she aims to be the 6th Filipina to be crowned Miss International.
Binibining Pilipinas –International 2015 Janicel Lubina admits that she’s feeling the pressure to win the Miss Intertnational this year, after her co-Binibini winner Ann Colis won the recent Miss Globe. This she revealed during the send-off presscon yesterday at the Gateway Mall. As usual, Miss International will be held in Tokyo, Japan, on November 5. Although she stressed that she takes the pressure as a motivation and in preparation for her Japan trip. She is set to leave Manila on October 17 to represent her beloved Philippines.
“Nung nalaman ko nanalo si Ann, I don’t know what to do, parang naalarma ako, parang I have to do this, I have to do that, yung determination ko kailangan doblehin, talagang na-motivate ako, and I prayed a lot, God help me, this is my last pageant and I need to do and give my best,” the Cinderella of Palawan explained.
Madame Stella Marquez-Araneta, head of Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. is also hopeful that Lubina will make a way in this year’s pageant. She believed that the Palawan lass has the power in her personality and that will make her qualify as a good contender.
Araneta added that, “When Janicel enter the contest, she was a very shy girl, but a beautiful one, she’s been able to improve this past months. I think she would have a good chance, she’s beautiful, she’s true to herself all the time, she’s not depending on anything. She is herself and I think that’s important to a beauty contest, not trying to be somebody else, but being yourself.”
But the beauty queen shared that her preparation for Miss International was not easy. Lubina admit there are times she cried after reading some comments and reactions on social media, especially in comparing her to other contestants who are prettier than her. Instead, she focused harder on her goal to win the crown. Her mindset is to bring home the crown and be the sixth Filipina to be Miss International.
Some are telling me I’m not gonna win, because they are more beautiful than you. But I don’t believe in that because I know myself. I know my capacity, kahit gaano pa kaganda ang mga kalaban ko. I have joined several pageants in the past and I know kaya ko silang lahat. Hindi ako pinanghihinaan ng loob. Of course it hurts, pero talaga, hindi ako ganito, antayin nyo ako,” she said.
The 20-year old Palawan beauty is 100% battle ready for the 55th Miss International to be held first week of next month, at Shinagawa Prince Hotel Hiten Hall in Tokyo. If ever she takes home the crown, this 5-foot, 8 inches stunner will be in the rooster of Filipina Queens, such as Gemma Cruz (1964), Aurora Pijuan (1970), Melanie Marquez (1979), Precious Lara Quigaman (2005) and Bea Rose Santiago (2013).
Lubina , a farmer’s daughter, used to plant rice in Narra, Palawan, to help augment the family’s income, before she was discovered by a local make-up artist that paved her way up to the national competition. “I pray to God na sana ibigay n’ya na sa akin to, parang kasi ang ganda naman pakinggan na from humble beginning ay nangarap na maging isang beauty queen. Most of them called me Cinderella from Palawan; then let’s make it international, para maging Cinderella of the world”, she jokingly ended.
During the send-off, Lubina was joined by her co-reigning Queens who also gave inspiring messages, they are Bb.Pilipinas Universe Pia Wurtzbach, Bb.Pilipinas Suprational Rogelie Catacutan and Bb.Pilipinas Intercontinental Christi Lynn Mcgarry.
