Jennylyn Mercado’s Kiss to Remember
By Kiko Escuadro
Who would have thought that John Lloyd Cruz and Jennylyn Mercado had kissed before?
During our set visit for Star Cinema’s upcoming movie Just The Three of Us, award-winning actress Jennylyn Mercado talked about her experiences working with her leading man, the award-winning and blockbuster actor John Lloyd Cruz, in doing this film.
While having a break, Jennylyn shared her thoughts how was it like working with the Kapamilya actor. “Nakakatakot kasi syempre John Lloyd yan di ba, at magaling na actor. Just like our director, may preassure din. It took me a week bago nawala ang pressure, at sobrang saya sa set namin at magaan sila ka trabaho, at marami akong natutunan kay direk (Cathy Garcia-Molina), mula sa maliliit na detalye hanggang sa malaki.”
Romantic comedy queen also revealed how effective direk Cathy in terms of motivating her actors. “Nung nag shooting kami, immediately after that dumerecho ako ng taping. Ang sabi ng mga kasama ko aba sinusunod mo na yung inutos sayo ni direk, nadala mo lahat sa taping. So naisip ko magaling talaga siya as a director and it’s a good sign, at marami talaga akong na grab sa kanya, and I learned a lot. At nagpapasalamat ako na naka trabaho ko sila.”
In the middle of the interview, Jennylyn shared that she already had a chance to work with John Lloyd even before she joined Starstruck. And who would have thought they had a kissing scene?
“Hindi ko alam kung na alala pa ni Lloydie yun kasi nag extra lang ako dat. Tinawagan ako ng manager ko that time, sabi n’ya ‘baka pwede ka mag extra sa soap nila ni Bea Alonzo na Kay Tagal Kitang Hinintay.’ Wala talaga akong alam, di ako umaarte noon.” And Jennylyn suddenly recalled that she had a kissing scene with the actor. “Mahaba ang buhok ko doon, maitim na medyo morena , kasi ngayon kasi medyo maputi na ako,” she laughed.
Since Jennylyn have alreadyt worked with three kapamilya leading men (Derek Ramsey, Jericho Rosales and now John Lloyd), Jenn was asked to compare the three guys in terms of acting. “Ayaw ko mag compare kasi magkakaiba silang tatlo e, magkakaiba yung personality nila at iba iba yung role at atake ng characters nila,” she replied.
John Lloyd came from a very successful and box office film with Bea Alonzo (A Second Chance), and she was asked if she feel any pressure of attaining same result with their film? “Grabe yung pressure, pero syempre ayaw ko mag expect ng hindi din ako sigurado, pero syempre yung mga ginawa niyang pelikula nakakatakot dikitan,” she answered.
Meanwhile, the film director, Cathy Garcia Molina also shared her experience working with the Kapuso star. “Very different, in fact, nahirapan ako, nahirapan ako kasi yun na nga I’m working with a leading lady that i never worked with and never seen with even before. So dumating siya sa akin na parang isang canvass. So mahirap, and alam ko nahihirapan din siya, so we tried and we talked. And thank God kasi nahanap ko sa kanya yun. Ang maganda kay Jennylyn tatatanggapin niya kahit malayo siya doon sa character, hindi kasi niya galaw, iba ang ibinigay nya doon sa ibang pelikula, ngayon hiningan ko siya ng more than what she was able to give to our film.I know it’s harder for her, but yeah if you have watched the teaser ayun sa kanya ‘yon. It’s always naman na ako guide lang as the director. At the end of the day, the talent goes my back.” The movie will be released in commercial theater on April 27 nationwide.
