“I’m just waiting, as of now, the go signal of Kapuso management so I can appear in other networks.”

After a decade of being one of the young divas of GMA network, Jonalyn Viray confirmed that she is no longer a Kapuso artist. After she won the network’s singing talent search Pinoy Pop Superstar in 2005, she eventually captured the hearts of Filipino viewers with her powerful voice. Then, she immediately became a regular singer and performer in her studio’s noon time shows; from SOP to Party Pilipinas, until Sunday All Stars.
In this interview, the “Fearless Diva” was asked what to expect from her in 2016, and surprisingly she said, “Matagal-tagal na po ako nag isip, like two years ko na po inisip bago mag expire yung contract ko, so ina-anticipate ko na po ang mangyari for my future. So nung nag expire po nung May 2015 meron naman po bagong na present na contract ang GMA sa amin. But as we mature, I mean as I mature, nagka karoon napo ng direksyon kung ano na po talaga yung gusto natin puntahan.”

Jonalyn was asked what made her decide to decline the offer of GMA management of the new contract? “During that time na nag present po sa akin and to my manager, nagkataon na hindi pa din po tugma kung ano yung gusto kong direksyon which is singing,”she quickly replied.

She added, “Like ng matapos na po yung SAS (Sunday All Star) the musical variety show, at napalitan nang Sunday PinaSaya, ang feeling ko the show kasi is more on the comedy side, tapo iba na yung category nila ngayon hindi siya yung concert type. But we were honest enough, me and my manager to tell them na mas priority naming yung singing and concert, and of course producing and album.”

As a product of GMA Network talent search and mentored by Regine Velasquez, Jonalyn was asked if she informed Regine about her decision and her problem regarding her status in the network. “Yes, syempre,” she answered in a jest. “Di Ate Regine po ang mentor ko at ang pinaka ultimate na sinabi niya basta kung saan daw ako mag grow as an artist go lang ako.”
Jonalyn claimed that she really prayed hard before to have the courage to leave GMA. “Ang tagal-tagal ko po pinag pray kung saan ako dadalhin kasi ayaw ko naman po kasi mag decide pabigla bigla. I just wanna take my time. Actually hindi pa ako convinced noon na umalis sa GMA, I already had offers to guest in Kapamilya shows,” she revealed.
Jonalyn said that she would like to share in the same stage with some of her most admired performers, like Gary Valenciano, Martin Nieverra and even the Pop Star Princess Sarah Geronimo. However, she is still waiting the clearance from the Kapuso management for her to do so.
Meanwhile, Jonalyn was asked how is her relationship with her former group La Diva with Aicele Santos and Maricris Garcia. And she said, “Actually dumarating din po kasi sa point na nagkakaroon ng misunderstanding pero ayaw po namin mag focus sa mga ganun problema pag may mga performance po kami. Professional namin ginagampanan ang mga trabaho namin.”
At this point, Jonalyn believed that it is better to become a solo artist. “Tulad pong nasabi ko, matagal na din kami nagkasama-sama. Kumbaga nag iiba-iba na din kami ng gustong tahaking direksyon sa mga careers naming,” she stressed.
