“It’s a destiny at si Kuya Germs talaga ang nag-convince sa akin na tanggapin ang Destiny Rose. Sabi niya, kahit anong project, kailangan kong i-grab. Maraming siyang plano sa akin at talagang ipinaglalaban niya ako.”
Kapuso network’s next important star, Ken Chan admitted that he just broke up with her non-showbiz girlfriend of two years due to lack of quality time with each other. Since he joined showbiz and became the lead star of Destiny Rose, his time has been occupied and heavily loaded with tapings, TV guestings and mall shows. They decided to part ways because the girl has also her priorities in life and he doesn’t want to hamper her dreams. And the young actor chose to focus on his blooming career.
Ken was discovered through a TV commercial. After he auditioned for GMA 7’s Twin Hearts and was lucky enough to pass with flying colors, the soap opera became his opener in showbiz.
As a newbie in the industry, it was not easy for him to do the role of a transgender. He had to do some research about his role as Destiney Rose.
“Sobrang dami kong ginawang acrting workshops sa GMA-7 and then, tinuruan din akong kumilos with finesse.
Ken, 21, is a third year HRM student at St. Benilde College. He related that he had no intention of joining showbiz, but only appear in TV commercials. But since he was given a big break via Destiny Rose he has no choice but to make good in his acting career.
“Actually, I auditioned for the role,” he insisted.
He also recounted an incident in the mall where he thought he would be bullied because of his role as a cross-dresser, but instead, he was adored.
“Sobrang ne-respeto nila ‘yung role ko. Sobrang minahal ng tao ang Destiny Rose. Siyempre, nakikita ako ng mga tao sa labas, tuwang-tuwa sila sa akin and I came to a decision as long as gusto ng tao ako bilang Destiny Rose at ma-extend kahit isang taon, gagawin ko pa,” he happily said.
Like any actor, it’s one of his dreams to have an acting award.
Now that his mentor-manager has just passed away, he considered it a big lost in the industry; not only is he an institution, but on what he had contributed, especially in helping struggling young people with big potentials and were given the chance to become big stars.
“Malaking-malaki ang nawala sa industry,” he stressed. “Ang relasyon kasi namin ni Kuya Germs hindi lang as my manager and as his talent kundi he’s my second father at itinuring niya akong anak-anakan. He’s been a part of my life and his part of my family, extended family na namin si Tatay, but I’m really happy for him because he in a better place right now.
As of today, Ken is a bonafied voter. And according to him, he has already thought of the ideal qualities of a president who must lead the country in the next six years.
Will he endorse someone if given the chance? “Why not, it’s just a work. Bilang artista, mayroon naman kaming karapatan pumili kung sino and i-endorese naming. Kaya lang, nakalagay kasi sa contract naming with our studio na bawal kaming mag-endorse,” he replied.
And lastly, with the demise of Kuya Germs, we talked about loyalty and his future in the business.
