“I’m a big fan of John Lloyd Cruz,” proudly admitted by Korina Sanchez, wife of administration presidential candidate, Mar Roxas. This writer was able to interview Sanchez during the opening of the 2015 Cinema One Originals Film Festival held last November 8 (Sunday), at the Trinoma Cinema 7. The opening film was Honor Thy Father directed by Erik Matti, starring John Llyod Cruz and Meryll Soriano, in a very challenging supporting role.

We asked her what film she was looking forward to watch in the festival. “Yung kay Nick Joaquin,” she replied.  “I think it’s really interesting. I hardly ever go to the movies. Well, I said, it’s a chance to buy popcorn, watch on the big screen, and be among friends.”

With the recent turned of events regarding the Lag-lag Bala or Tanim-Bala issue, we asked her about the statement made by her husband regarding the controversy.

“Tao lang din naman siya. So I guess as long as malinis ka, maganda ang intensyon mo, kahit magkulang o magkamali ka paminsan-minsan, palagay ko katanggap-tanggap naman yun,” Sanchez remarked. This is in reference to the flak her better half, Mar Roxas received from netizens.

The quote of Roxas from Rappler.com, “Kung nagpasok ka ng contraband sa airport, paano naging problema ng gobyerno yun?” allegedly took out of context as stated by the presidentiable on the issue and even resulted in several negative reactions, aside from the constant bashing of netizens. Rappler has issued a public apology last Nov. 6.

Rappler: “As in our practice, we acknowledge these lapses and apologize to the public we serve. The quote we chose didn’t fully represent his position on a sensitive issue. We’ll strengthen our internal measures to make sure this doesn’t happen again.”

Asked on her future plans once her husband is elected, Sanchez wasn’t too keen on answering the questions about being a future First Lady, but she good-manneredly jested about it, “Manalo muna tayo. Nakakahiya namang sagutin yan, baka sabihin nila feel na feel.”

Aside from films, Sanchez enjoys good music at Strumm’s with Roxas. Their anniversary happened just a few days ago and they went out of town to celebrate it.
