Martin Del Rosario Says An Affair With Older Women Is Possible
By Patricia Simone Dauz
“Tingin ko possible, ang love naman walang pinipiling edad yan eh,” the actor candidly answered when asked what would happen if art imitated life and he meets a 50-year old woman whom he likes. “Parang minumulto nga ako ng May-December love affair eh, kasi parang pang-apat ko nang role na May-December.”
To prepare for the role, Martin asked his director to send him links to surrealist films he can study. “It’s my first time so I’m very excited. Mahilig ako sa mga challenging roles. It’s a new thing for me,” he shared.
He also recalled that before he got the role, he was asked if he was interested to be part of the film via text. And when he got the script, he liked it very much and he agreed right away. It’s his first time to work with the film’s auteur Jason Paul Laxamana.
“I’ve heard good things about him,” he said. However, he hasn’t watched any of the latter’s works yet. “Narinig kong magaganda pero wala akong masyadong time makapanood ng movies.”
The film features Ara Mina as Barbara, the main character of the story, a widow who has amassed wealth due to kickbacks from shady government projects. Since she neither has a husband nor children, she’s adopted young men whom she treated as her family members who give her special services. Timothy Castillo, who gained praise from critics due to his diabolical turn in Violator, has a featured role in this film, as well as mestizo model Bryann Foronda. Martin plays Henry, one of Nuclear Family’s men of the household. The surrealist drama drew influences from foreign films of the same genre like Dogtooth, Lobster, and Andalusian Dog. “Parang panaginip yung buong pelikula,” shared Laxamana. When asked if the Filipino audience is ready for this type of film, Laxamana confidently stated, “Hindi, pero gagawin naming silang handa.” The film’s target shoot date according to the actor will be in March 2016.
The Kapuso actor is part of GMA’s highly-rated afternoon teleserye Buena Familia as Harry Atendido, the love interest of Kylie Padilla’s character, Celine. He gained recognition as a thespian when he won the Best Supporting Actor Award in the 38th Gawad Urian for his role as the lover of a middle-aged professor Issey (Eula Valdez) in the 2014 Cinemalaya film Dagitab. With regards to his acting award, he related, “Sa akin, mas nainspire akong galingan sa mga susunod. At least may nagconfirm na on the right track yung ginagawa ko.”
When asked what he would do if he was in the shoes of Celine who discovered that her real mother was a bad person, he replied, “Iba kasi yan pag nanay mo. Kahit gaano kasama, nanay mo pa rin yan. Ang hirap itakwil lalo na kapag nanghihingi naman ng tawad. Madaling magforgive kapag nanay mo. Pero, kung siguro hindi mo naman kaanu-ano, lalo na kung tinorture-torture ka at lahat, isusumpa mo talaga.”
Martin is single and a college undergraduate student currently on leave from his course under the College of Mass Communication in UP Diliman but he plans to finish his studies as soon as his schedule frees up. He has no qualms about possible brief sexy scenes in the film. “Kinakabahan pa rin ako ‘pag mga ganyan, pero ano…commitment lang…kung ikakaganda naman ng movie. Nasa pag-eexceute rin naman ng mga shots. I trust my director.” With regards to the type of girl he likes, he stated, “Gusto ko simple. Yung wala masyadong arte.” Being in the public eye runs in his family since Ces Quesada is his aunt from his mom’s side, and his aunt from his dad’s side is Connie Sison, a veteran newscaster.
