My National Costume Creation for Mr. International 2015
By Edwin Uy
Luckily, my “Ibong Adarna” was chosen in the list. The costume looked good on Reniel as he carried it so well. I just hope and pray that he wins this award.
Mister International started in 2006 and is now considered to be one of the most prestigious male beauty pageants. Last year, Neil Perez, our representative to this pageant became the very firs Filipino to ever win the title. I was assigned to do his national costume. I made a costume inspired from the “Dinagyang Festival” of Iloilo and won the 3rd place in the national costume competition of the said pageant.
This year, our country hosted the international pageant for the very first time and I am proud that PEPPS, the organizer of the local pageant search for Mr. International commissioned me to do the national costume of our representative,
Mr. Reniel Villareal. His costume is inspired from the “Ibong Adarna”, a multi-colored mythical bird of the Philippines.
It has a head gear and wings that resembles a colorful bird and accessorized with a spear and a shield to depict a warrior.
The national costume competition of Mr. International 2015 was held in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, last night, and the night ended with them choosing the Top 10 best in national costumes.
The winner of the national costume competition will be announced on the finals night which will be held on November 30 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Resorts World Manila, Philippines. Good luck Reniel. I just hope that my national costume creation will help you in being one of the winners of this pageant as it did some of the other candidates I dressed up in the past.
