For talking to her dolls, talented actress Rita Avila says…
“Sila ang mas baliw sa akin.”
In 2006, friends and family of Rita Avila were saddened when she had a miscarriage. It was the baby she, and her husband, Direk Erick Reyes, really wanted. Only three-week old, the couple named their unborn child Elia Jesu K. Reyes.
In this exclusive interview, Rita admits that when she was having a problem to have a baby, she was advised by her doctor to be surrounded with dolls dahil nakakatulong daw ito sa babaeng gusto nang magbuntis and eventually, magkaanak. But after that incident, sobra siyang naging malungkot kaya bumili pa siya ng three more dolls. She named the boy Pony and the two (twins) as Popoy and Mimay. “I want to inspire children to be angels sometimes,” she tells.
I think, they’re crazier than me,” she insists.
“Naka-moved-on na ako kasi matagal na yun. It happened more than 8 years ago at tanggap ko naman ‘yun pero masakit,” she adds.
But she feels they can still try to have one because Mariel is still young.
Is she still hoping to have a baby?
“Wala na, matanda na ako! Hindi na ako bata!” she laughs. “Kami kasing mag-asawa when we lost the baby parang hindi namin matanggap at first, but we realized that God will give what you want. And I’m even thankful because I have an official angel talaga. In spite of what happened, I never questioned God for that.”
The interview took place during the album launch of Voice Male sa Fisher Mall a few days ago. Two of the songs of the said album were composed by Rita, namely, “Hanggang Dito Na Lang” and “Hanggang Muli.” The first was originally sung by OJ Mariano, and now revived by the quartet for their self-titled debu album.
Aside from composing songs, Rita is also busy writing books. “I have three books already,” she shares. “ The first one is inspirational, while the two are children’s books. Her second children’s book entitled “Ang Mga Nakatagong Pakpak” is nominated in Cardinal Sin Catholic Awards.”
On movie roles that she wants to portray, “I prefer that of a mute para walang mini-memorize…ha! ha! ha!”
Aside from composing and writing books, Rita loves to paint. “I love painting, too, pero napagalitan ako dahil parang doon nakatuon lang ang aking oras. I had my business before, but too bad, I don’t have enough time for it,” she says.
And what keeps her look so young after all these years? “Batang isip kasi ako (laughs). Mahilig akong maglaro ng mga manyika at marami akong mga anak-anakan,” stresses the former member of That’s Entertainment.
