The Pope and The Vamps…They Have Something in Common
By Patricia Simone Dauz
No, we are not talking about vampires here. We are talking about the British pop band The Vamps. The band members are Brad Simpson (lead vocals and guitars), James McVey (lead guitar and vocals), Connor Ball (bass guitar and vocals), and Tristan Evans (drums and vocals). The group gained fame via Youtube with their cover songs and they were even compared to One Direction.
Coincidentally, Pope Francis, who wowed Americans during his six-day visit in the USA, announced that he will release a pop-rock album entitled “Wake Up” on the 27th of November, the same date The Vamps planned to release their second album with the same name. Is this divine intervention?
The Pope’s album has been approved by the Vatican and it was made in collaboration with Believe Digital. This contains sacred hymns and selected speeches accompanied by Gregorian chants and pop-rock arrangements. The Pope, who left USA today (Sunday American Time), had his song ‘Wake Up! Go! Go! Forward!’ debuted last Friday on the website of Rolling Stone. For those who will preorder the album on iTunes, they will get a free download of that single.
The Vamps had their concert at the Mall of Asia Arena February this year. They will be back in the Philippines at the same venue on January 30, 2016. Pope Francis, on the other hand, visited the Philippines last January. His visit even inspired a theater group named Philippine Stagers Foundation (PSF) to create a musical entitled #Popepular, headed by Atty. Vince Tanada, currently on nationwide tour.
Mcvey expressed his desire to have a gig together with Pope Francis sometime in the future. Now, holy cow, that’s something to look forward to!
