During The Voice of the Philippines Season One, good-looking Edward Benosa joined the blind audition. Unfortunately, none of the judges, namely, Sarah Geronimo, Apple d.Apps, Bamboo and Lea Salonga turned their heads during his stint. But when they saw him after he sang, his looks was very much appreciated by them.
Edward, 24, a Spanish mestizo, and taking a culinary course at SCAP in Katipunan but due to his hectic schedule now, he opted not to continue but instead focused on his singing career.
Being new in the industry, offers for shows are limited, but slowly, he’s on his way to the top. In fact, by next year, he has some shows abroad, and hopefully he’ll be doing his first major concert in one of the big venues in the country.
As a sign of his promising singing career, Edward won in the recent PMPC Star Awards for Music as the Best New Male Recording Artist, besting Darren Espanto (MCA Music), Darryl Shy (Star Music), Enchong Dee (Star Music), Garth Garcia (Ivory Records), Ken Chan (Polyeast Records), Kito Romualdez (Viva Records) and Paolo Valenciano (Star Music).
His music video for his carrier single “Di Man Lang Nagpaalam” was also nominated for Music Video of the Year. The song “Di Ka Man lang Nagpaalam” is his own composition. It was his ex-girfriend, a flight attendant, who inspired him to write the song. “Naisulat ko ito noong nag-break na kami. Narito pa rin siya sa puso ko and who knows, kami pa rin pala pagdating ng tamang panahon,” he claimed.
This interview was conducted during the Star Awards ceremony, inside the newly renovated KIA Theater (formerly New Frontier Theater) in Cubao. In the middle of our conversation, Michael Pangilinan sang his hit song “Pare, Mahal Mo Daw Ako.” Due to his adonis look, we asked him if he has already received an indecent proposal (both from a rich gay and a sugar mommy), like supporting him in his singing profession.
But when asked who among the girls in showbiz give him a fantasy in the night, “Wala namang gan’un pero attracted ako kina Sarah Geronimo at Anne Curtis, hindi lang sila magaganda, mga humble pa,” he replied.
The 2016 election will be his first time to vote and as of now, he’s looking for the right candidate to govern the country for the next six years.
