An Interior designer, a pre-school teacher, a blogger, a nurse, completed the newest Queens of Binibining Pilipinas 2016, chosen last night (April 17) at the Araneta Coliseum. With a party mode theme, 40 lovely ladies showcased beauty and wit that celebrated the beautiful Filipina of today.
Chosen as Bb.Pilipinas-Universe was Ma. Mika Maxine Medina, 25 years of age, an interior designer by profession, a part time model, and represented Quezon City. She was also the recipient of Miss Philippine Airlines award. Bb.International is Kylie Verzosa, 24 years of age who worked as a pre-school teacher. She represented Baguio City. She also bagged Photogenic award and Ms. Jag . Bb.Pilipinas-Intercontinental is Candidate 26, Jennifer Hammond, a nursing board topnotcher and hailed from Laguna province. She also won Best in Long Gown designed by Nat Marilag.
Joanna Deapera Eden is Bb. Pilipinas-Supranational, she also got the Best in Swimsuit award. This 23-year old student from De La Salle University is from Lucban, Quezon. The new crowns given at the said coronation were Bb. Pilipinas-Grand International won by 23-year old Nicole Cordoves of Manila. This lady is a government employee of the Department of Finance. And Bb.Pilipinas-Globe was won by the crowd’s favourite, Nicole Manalo, a professional nurse and hailed from a family of past beauty queens. She represented Pampanga and also got Miss Creamsilk award. First runner-up went to Angelica Alita of Puerto Galera in Mindoro and a chef, while second placer was Jehza Mae Huelar, a finance graduate from Davao City.
Medina, Verzosa, Hammond, Cordoves, Alita and Heular were trained under beauty queen mentor Aces and Queens, while Eden and Manalo were from Kagandahang Flores. This year’s board of judges were reigning Miss USA-Universe Olivia Thomas Jordan, actor Ian Veneracion, ABS-CBN TV Head Cory Vidanes and Laurente Dyogi, Denmark Ambassador to Manila Jan Top Christensen, Belgium Ambassador Roland Van Remoortele, Russian Ambassador Igor Anatolyevich Khovaev, former Spain Ambassador to the Philippines Lani Bernardo, and Presidential aspirant Mar Roxas only son, Paolo Roxas.
Reigning Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach had her fabulous farewell walk that was cheered and had standing ovation by the audience. She thanked all the people who made his journey a success especially to Madame Stella Marquez-Araneta, she also gave a message of encouragement to her successor.
“To my successor, just remember to give your best, behind that beautiful gown your knees maybe trembling, like me right now, I’m still not used to it. Being in front of millions of people is nerve wracking, but you have to remember that you are proudly wearing that sash that says Philippines, and believe me, in your moments of doubt, you just have to remember you have the whole country cheering you on.”
It was also announced that all Queens of Binibini, will wear gowns created by Filipino designers. This year’s Queens will receive each a P500, 000 worth of contract from Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc, insurance, endorsements, wardrobe and a lot more.
Other special award winners were Vina Openiano (Binibining Friendship and Best in Talent). Best in National Costume went to Angela Fernando who wore a creation by Frederick Peralta. Other semi finalists who madee it on the Top 1 were Openiano, Riana Pangindian, Apriel Smith, Roshiela Tobias, Kemberle Penchon, Dindi Joy Pajares and Edjelyn Gamboa.
