The Binibining Pilipinas new successors for 2016 were crowned two nights ago. These new young ladies meant for international competitions were Nicole Manalo (Miss Globe), Nicole Cordoves (Miss Grand International), Joanna Eden (Miss Supranational), Jennifer Hammond (Miss Intercontinental), Kylie Verzosa (Miss International), and for the next hopeful Miss Universe crown, to follow the footsteps of Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach , is Philippine Maxine Medina.
In this interview with reporters few minutes after her momentous win, Maxine shared that she was ecstatic of her new title and she said, “Hindi ko po talaga ma explain kasi first of all hindi ko po ma picture na magiging Miss Universe candidate ako and i never expect na si Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach pa pala ang mag lalagay sakin ng crown, kasi I’ve been friends with Pia before and nagulat ako when she won the Miss Universe 2015.”
Maxine was asked how her friendship with Pia started? “It started four or three years ago when I joined Binibining Pilipinas 2012 ,” she shared. Medina also claimed that she made it to the list of candidates for that year, but was disqualified due to a conflict with her existing endorsement contract . “Hindi natuloy because of some conflicts with my contracts, and then after that Pia joined . We used to hang out then.”
Maxine was asked why she decided in join again? “Well, I was thinking that after modelling what’s next . So I decided to join Binibining Pilipinas to prove to myself that I can do other things,” she replied. Although from the start, she felt she was not a crowd-favorite. “I just want to enjoy the journey,” she said.
Maxine is also aware of the pressure now that she won the title, and most especially in representing the country in the next Miss Universe pageant. “I haven’t talked to Pia, maybe after this, but the only words that I got from her nung nasa stage kami, ang sabi niya sakin ‘babe nanginginig din ako nung nilalagay niya sakin ang crown’ sabi ko sa kanya, ‘Pia ikaw pala maglalagay ng crown sa akin,’’’ she enthused.
Maxine was also asked what can she say about the rumors that the Miss Universe 2016 might be held in the Philippines. “Sana para lahat ng Filipino masaya at syempre we can get the support from everyone,” she said.
And what will be your ultimate goal as the country’s bett? “I will be Miss Universe 2016 and I will give my best shot,” and smiled.
